There’s nothing quite as simple or sweet as lunching with the lady you call mom on a summer’s day.

The Simple Summer feature of the week features just that. Longtime Fair Havenites Linda Leslie Morse and mom Barbara Leslie took advantage of a nice day to migrate south for a little sun, lounge and lunch.

Simple. These two didn’t need a trip to Europe or a costly spa treatment — just a little date, replete with a quick jaunt and a nosh did just fine. Yes, summertime and the little joys living is simple.

And these two know all about simple. Longtime Fair Haven locals remember Barbara well, as she provided a few simple, inexpensive bits of fun and entertainment for area kids via her and her husband Frank’s Whistle Stop.

There, the family sold penny candy, rounds on the pinball machines, cheap slices of Elio’s pizza in the after-school hangout behind the Acme in Fair Haven.

Upstairs, Barbara gave guitar lessons and coordinated the very hip Fair Haven Folk Singers who strummed, marched and sang — all at the same time — in many a parade.

It doesn’t get more simple than that. Enjoy your simple summer, Mrs. Leslie and Linda!

Thanks for the simple pleasures through the years!
