Scene Around: Signing with a Fair Haven Author

Fair Haven author Mary Ann Kampfe is poised with pen in hand making the book signing rounds with her newly published Dementia Dolls: A Daughter’s Story. The latest booking for a signing is Barnes & Noble in Eatontown.

The Barnes & Noble signing is slated for Tuesday evening, July 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. Recently, Kampfe gave a talk at River Road Books in her own hometown. Kampfe is known around the Rumson-Fair Haven towns as a parent and the former press release writer for the school systems.

Published by WiDo, Dementia Dolls is based on the blog Kampfe began after her mother Josephine moved into her Fair Haven home and was diagnosed with the memory-robbing disease. It covers the three years the author spent caring for her mother and her navigation of the difficult decision to place her in a nursing facility.

“I purposely wrote while I was in the thick of things to provide an unflinching look at what caregivers and their patients go through,” Kampfe said. “That being said, I made it a point to show the fabulous person my mother is and continues to be. Mom and I have both kept our senses of humor, and have become even closer. For us, that is the silver lining in the cloud of dementia.”

Copies of Dementia Dolls: A Daughter’s Story will be available for purchase at the July 23 event. To reserve your space, contact Ellen Long at 732-460-9477.
