Rumson Police: Alleged Car Burglars, Thieves Nabbed After Fleeing Rumson Garage

After fleeing a Rumson garage early Tuesday morning and speeding  through four area towns in a stolen car, three alleged car burglars/thieves were arrested after they were found on foot off the Garden State Parkway near the abandoned stolen vehicle in which they were traveling, Rumson police said in a released statement.

On Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 2:53 a.m., Rumson police received an emergency call from a resident on Buttonwood Lane East who said that three people had just entered his garage, causing the alarm system to activate. The three were seen fleeing the area in a white vehicle.

Patrolmen Kevin Gaynor Michael Berger were advised while responding to the scene that the vehicle had been seen speeding by a Little Silver police unit. The vehicle was subsequently observed by Red Bank and Tinton Falls police entering the Garden State Parkway North ramp in Red Bank.

All three occupants bailed out on foot at approximately the 110 mile marker on the parkway and were found and arrested with the assistance of the New Jersey State Police, Little Silver, Fair Haven, Middletown, and Red Bank Police departments. One was found at about 4 a.m. and the other two at roughly 7:30, Rumson Police Detective Sgt. Christopher Isherwood said. The vehicle, a white 2018 BMW M3 was determined to be stolen out of Cresskill New Jersey on a previous date.

Arrested were: Alterek McCeary, 25, of East Orange, on two counts of burglary and one count of theft; Jared Wright, 29, of Newark, on two counts of burglary and one count of theft; Suhrell Proctor, 18, of East Orange, on two counts of burglary, one count of theft, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS).

The suspects were found to be in possession of a key fob that had been removed from a vehicle on Water Way earlier in the night, and were remanded to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution after processing.
