RFH Junior Accepted to Prestigious Rutgers NJ Governor’s Summer Program

Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) junior Evelyn (Evie) Manelski has been accepted into the New Jersey Governor’s School of Engineering and Technology at Rutgers University this summer.

Manelski was selected by RFH’s science teachers as the school’s applicant to the prestigious annual program. Each year, the Governor’s School admits less than 25 percent of 300 to 400 of the stand-out students in the state nominated by their schools. The rigorous application considers grades, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, community service pursuits, academic and extracurricular honors and accomplishments, PSAT scores, and a student essay.

Evie Manelski is described by her guidance counselor as “a dedicated student who is committed to learning and her growth. She has always sought out opportunities to expand her knowledge and create her own path.  The thought of being able to do this actually excites her. That aside, Evie is also humble, endearing, and kind-hearted.”

RFH Guidance Counselor Brooke Tomovich

Manelski currently takes both advanced placement Computer Science and Physics.  She loves math, science, and art and hopes to be able to combine all three into a career in CGI (computer-generated imagery) in the entertainment industry where she can create new applications for the technology.

Her leadership skills and diversity were key factors in the acceptance decision. She is the president of the Science National Honor Society, co-president of Paws and Claws, vice-president of the Key Club, treasurer of the Squash Club, a cast member of this year’s spring musical and is a member of the Math League, Tower Singers, Math Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Scientific Frontier Club, Debate Team and National Honor Society.

According to the Rutgers School of Engineering’s website, “The New Jersey Governor’s School of Engineering and Technology at Rutgers University is an intensive residential summer program that brings together some of New Jersey’s most talented and motivated high school students …”
