Rain, rain go away. Chill with the RFH seniors and everything be OK. It could have been a 1970s mantra, albeit a very corny one.

Let’s face it, though, those lounges at RFH made foul weather times just fine. And, lately, it’s been downright dank. That’s one of those words that just sounds like what it is. Yuck!

So, we’re taking you back to those RFH school days in the 1970s when being inside wasn’t all that bad. In fact, it was fun, because on those foul weather days, there were little indoor sanctuaries for the juniors and, especially, seniors at RFH.

Let’s face it, dank days or not, seniors kicked back, relaxed, studied (maybe), snacked, gossiped, played backgammon and just plain chilled in their special haven — the Senior Commons (or Lounge).

So, the Retro Pic of the (George) Day brings us back to a place where all good RFH seniors sought solace, comfort and, well, a little bit of senior solace, otherwise known as mischief.

When the weather was not so hot, things were especially cool in the Senior Commons. There, seniors gathered in this special little nook of theirs. It had groovy 1970s sunken floors, some comfy furniture and bean bags and standard tables with oh-so-stylish captain’s chairs and, I do recall, carved initials in the table tops.

By the looks of some of the telling outfits, it wasn’t quite winter in this shot. It was likely Halloween. OK, so it’s off by a bit, but you get the picture. Right here.

And, hey, anything went in the RFH Senior Commons, including costumes whenever the mood, or mod schedule, struck. What better way to jazz up a dank day? Either that or a pimp, a mummy, a sailor or two and Old Man Time escaped from the asylum that day.

Recognize anyone? Tell us your favorite Senior Commons antics story.

Thanks, yet again, to the fabulous George Day for this photo of the past!
