Retro Fair Advertising

The Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair may be over, but there are always remnants of it stowed away either in memory or in print somewhere.

We unearthed a 1983 ad for the fair from the archives of the Red Bank Register.

So, the Retro Pic of the Day is an image of that ad.

Check out the difference and traditional similarities more than three decades can make.

It was billed as the second largest fair in the state with an annual attendance of 31,000.

In the ad, it says when the fair originated in 1921, a main attraction was a dance floor and there was a 10-cent admission charge.

The fair grounds originally were where Borough Hall stands now.

The grand prize was a car, most remember. That year, it was a 1983 Dodge convertible.

There were several ad sponsors. Can you guess which of those are still around? Anyone remember who won the car that year?
