Prosecutor: Unidentified Victim of Tuesday Accident Dies

UPDATE: The Identity of the victim in the Brielle fatal accident early Tuesday morning has been identified as Alejandro Garciamerino, 26, of Point Pleasant Beach.

An unidentified male died as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle on Tuesday morning in Brielle, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced on Thursday.

The male victim was walking in the area of Route 71 and Bradley Avenue in Brielle at 12:37 a.m. on Tuesday when he was struck in the northbound lane by a 2018 Nissan Versa driven by Dr. James S. McCaughan, 57, of Belmar.

The victim was pronounced dead at 12:56 am.

McCaughan was charged with third-degree causing death while driving with a revoked or suspended license, as well as two additional motor vehicle tickets. He was released pending trial.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and Brielle Police Department.
