Prosecutor: Stand-Off Ends Peacefully in Middletown

After nine hours of negotiations during a standoff, authorities came to what they said was “a peaceful resolution” with a man whom had barricaded himself in a Middletown apartment since this morning.

The man, 39-year-old James P. Guiney, is currently in police custody and being held on outstanding warrants. Authorities said they anticipate additional charges, but have not yet revealed them.

Guiney had barricaded himself in an apartment on Kimberly Court in the Maguire’s Grove apartment complex on Route 35 south after Middletown police had received a report of a disturbance there at 7:54 a.m.. Several buildings in the complex were evacuated as a precaution, according to a Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman.

After nine hours of communication and negotiations with police, which included the release of one family member, Guiney was arrested and remains in custody.
