Monmouth County law enforcement officials are investigating a Wednesday night shooting in Asbury Park that left one victim critically injured, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced.

Rumors being circulated on social media falsely indicated that the incident was a police-involved shooting. That is not the case. 

The facts …

Asbury Park police responded to the area of 1031 Sewell Avenue at 10:17 p.m. on Wednesday Sept. 2, for a shots-fired incident. Upon arrival, police officers found a male victim with five gunshot wounds.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is currently in critical, but stable condition. The investigation has thus far revealed that a minimum of 16 shots were fired in the area.

The case is being investigated by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Asbury Park Police Department.
