A former Asbury Park police officer, who has been listed as a fugitive from justice since he failed to appear for his criminal trial last week, is in federal custody after being captured without incident this morning in North Carolina, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced on Wednesday.
Keith German, 48, of Tinton Falls, has been listed as a fugitive from justice since a bench warrant was issued for his arrest by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Joseph Oxley last week.
He was captured in a joint effort by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Forces in Raleigh, N.C. and New Jersey, as well as Fugitive teams from, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office located him this morning.
German failed to appear for his trial which began last week as part of Operation Dead End, which resulted in the arrest of 53 defendants, including numerous members of the criminal street gangs Bloods and Crips as well as street-level drug offenders. German is accused of offering the criminal street gangs law enforcement intelligence to aid in their criminal activity.
German is expected to be returned to New Jersey to face trial once extradition is completed from North Carolina.
Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and state law.
The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Bogner and Joseph Cummings.
