Prosecutor: Area Man Gets 14 Years in Prison for Finance Fraud Scheme

An area man was sentenced to 14 years in state prison after admitting he deceived and impersonated at least 18 clients, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni announced on Tuesday in a released statement.

Christopher D. Biello, 43, of Coe Place in Middletown, was sentenced on Tuesday to 14 years in a New Jersey state prison with a five-year period of parole ineligibility for: scheming to obtain numerous credit cards in his victims’ names; engaging in fraudulent loan attempts using the victims’ identities; and forging documents, the release said.

Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Joseph W. Oxley sentenced Biello, who was also ordered to pay a total of $409,331.04 in restitution for the crimes committed against his victims, it added.

In June, Biello pleaded guilty before Oxley to one count of second-degree theft by deception, seven counts of third-degree theft by deception, three counts of third-degree impersonation, four counts of third-degree bad checks, two counts of third-degree theft, one count of fourth-degree forgery, one count of third-degree theft of services, and one count of third-degree fraudulent use of credit card, according to the release.

Biello, who also used the alias Christopher Sherman, was arrested and charged following a year-long investigation that revealed he offered to assist with the refinancing of homes, obtained numerous credit cards in victims’ names, engaged in fraudulent loan attempts using the victims’ identities, and forged documents.

The case was prosecuted by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor William Somers. Biello was represented by Alton D. Kenney, Esq., of Toms River.
