Prosecutor: 64-Year-Old Chaplain Arrested on Child Luring Charges

A 64-year-old chaplain has been arrested and charged with luring and endangering the welfare of a child, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said on Tuesday.

On Nov. 6, Edgar Finol-Carrillo, of Asbury Park, allegedly approached a minor and gave her a letter attempting to lure her to his residence to engage in sexual activity. Shortly after the child received the letter, the Asbury Park Police Department was contacted and the suspect, Finol-Carrillo, was apprehended.

Finol-Carrillo is currently being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI) in Freehold Township pending a detention hearing tentatively scheduled for Nov. 12 before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Paul X. Escandon.

If convicted, Finol-Carrillo is facing up to 10 years in prison on the luring charge and up to five years on the child endangerment charge. In addition, he would be subject to parole supervision for life and required to register under Megan’s Law. The case is assigned to Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Danielle Zanzuccki.

The joint investigation into Finol-Carrillo’s alleged criminal activity was conducted by Asbury Park police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
