In Memoriam: Longtime Rumsonite Pat Murphy, 84

Longtime Rumsonite Mary Patricia “Pat” Murphy passed away peacefully at Riverview Medical Center don Wednesday, Sept. 1. She was 84.

“She worked at the Borough of Rumson as an administrative assistant for over 30 years.  Pat was a proud Rumson resident and enjoyed her time with the Rumson Women’s Club.  Her greatest joy was cooking and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Pat never missed any of their school or sporting events and
enjoyed attending RFH football games.”

Born in the Bronx, NY to the late William and Florence (O’Brien) Fleury. Pat grew up in Tenafly, NJ until she met the love of her life Joseph Murphy and settled in Rumson in 1963.  

She is survived by: her beloved husband of 58 years, Joseph Murphy; her devoted children, Suzanne and her husband Glenn Bodnar, Jodi and her partner Ray England, Coleen and her husband Thomas Murray and Joe and his wife Lynn Murphy; her cherished grandchildren, Mollie, Cooper, Harrison, Abigail and Jack, her dear siblings, Sue Panarotti, Judi Florio, Debbie and her husband Coley Brown and Brian and his wife Nancy Fleury; and many nieces and nephews. 

A visitation will be held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, on Friday Sept. 3, from 4 to 8 pm. A mass of christian burial will be held at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Rumson on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Pat’s memory to the Rumson First Aid Squad, 1A Wilson Circle, Rumson, NJ 07760.
