In Memoriam: Longtime Little Silver Resident, Civic Leader, Susan Drury, 83

Longtime Little Silver resident, volunteer and civic leader, Susan P. Drury, passed away at her home in Little Silver on Sunday, April 18. She was 83.

Susan came to live in Little Silver in 1966 and became immersed in the community she called home.

While a member at Embury Methodist Church in Little Silver, she was secretary of the Sunday School, sang in the choir and chaired the church’s pie bakes.
For the last 20 years, she has been a member of the United Methodist Church of Red Bank. She served as president of the Board of Trustees, sang in the choir and for years tended to the memorial garden of the church. She was a delegate to the UMC Annual Conference for over 20 years.
For the last five years, she volunteered for the Backpack Crew, an organization that provides children in need with food resources they may not have access to otherwise.
She served over 50 years in Girls Scouts, as a girl scout, a troop leader and serving on the board of Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts. She served as the president of and sang in the Shrewsbury Chorale and sang for the Dalton School Choir in NewYork City.

She was co-owner of Lester Kehoe Machinery Corporation of Staten Island, NY.

Born in Rhinebeck, NY, to the late Gould and Ella Patchin of Pine Plains, NY, Susan graduated from Pine Plains High School in 1955 and received a bachelor of science degree from Wagner College in 1959. She worked as a lab technician at Richmond Memorial Hospital and Fedde Laboratory on Staten Island until her move to Little Silver in 1966.

She is predeceased by: her husband, Jack Drury; her son, John Drury; and her sisters, Frances Bradley, of Pine Plains, and Beatrice Ann Aldrich, of Cobleskill.

She is survived by: her daughters, Lisa and her husband, Helmer Arizmendy, and Lynn and her husband Julius Spada; her brother, Gould T. Patchin; her brother-in-law, Edward Drury; and five grandchildren, Allison, Caroline, and John Morano and Sophia and Gabriella Arizmendy.

The family will receive vaccinated visitors at the family home in Little Silver on Friday, June 18, from 2 to 5 p.m.. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. at the Red Bank Methodist Church on Saturday, June 19.
