In Memoriam: Former Longtime Rumsonite, Carol Halligan, 91

Former longtime Rumsonite, Carolyn “Carol” R. Raleigh Halligan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 29, surrounded by family. She was 91.

A graduate of what was Rumson High School, Carol met the man who became her husband of 56 years there, Harold “Hap” Halligan. The couple raised their family in Rumson while Carol worked at the Forrestdale School library.

After retirement, she loved to travel, with Hap in the RV, and later on numerous cruises.
All who knew Carol will miss her strength, intelligence, faith, love of family, and sense of fun.

Having lived most of her life in he lived in Rumson, Carol also lived in Oceanport, Port St. Lucie, FL, Pocono Lake, PA and, most recently, Tinton Falls.

A daughter of the late Maurice and Mildred Raleigh, Carol was preceded in death by: her daughter, Carol, in June of 2020; her husband, Hap, in 2005; and two brothers and a sister.

She is survived by: her four children, Harold J. Halligan and his partner Suzanne, of Highlands, Robert E. Halligan and his wife Ann, of Rumson, Thomas E. Halligan and his wife Barbara, of Pocono Lake, PA, and Paul J. Halligan and his wife Jeanine, of Atlantic Highlands; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; her brother John “Jack” Raleigh and his wife Dorothy, of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 11, at Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

In keeping with the current state mandates regarding COVID-19, face coverings must be worn by all visitors and will not be provided by the funeral home. Guests will be directed to briefly greet the family and exit the building as soon as possible thereafter as a limited number of people are allowed in the funeral home at a time.

A mass of christian burial will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Rumson. Burial will be private.
