Prosecutor: Former Health Club Bookkeeper Pleads Guilty to Stealing More Than $75K

A former bookkeeper of The Atlantic Club has pleaded guilty to pilfering more than $75,000 from the business, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced on Friday.

Jennifer Ambrosino, 42, of Point Pleasant, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to second-degree theft by unlawful taking for stealing funds from the health club between January 2012 and June 2017.

Ambrosino was charged following a joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Wall Township Police Department, and the New Jersey Department of Treasury, Office of Criminal Investigation.

The investigation determined that Ambrosino embezzled more than $223,000 from the health club for her personal use. Ambrosino concealed the theft by altering bank statements, initiating fraudulent wire transfers, and submitting erroneous reconciliation documents.

She was indicted on the charges of: one count of second-degree theft of movable property, one count of second-degree computer criminal activity, four counts of third-degree failure to pay taxes, four counts of third-degree filing of a fraudulent tax return, and one count of fourth-degree falsifying records.

She pleaded guilty to the theft by unlawful taking charge of stealing more than $75,000 of the (more than $223,000 original embezzlement findings).

Under the terms of the plea agreement, the State will recommend a sentence of five years in prison when she returns for sentencing on August 28.
