A Pandemic Time RFH Class of 2020 Graduation Commemoration

For the first time in the history of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH), it’s looking like there will not be traditional a graduation ceremony.

In lieu of the usual gathering of the entire class, staff, family and friends, the walk, speeches, music, diploma awarding, tassel moving and cap tossing, the RFH Class of 2020 will be honored with socially distanced end-of-year commemorations for the month of June.

It started with the giving to seniors of a surprise Bulldog swag bag replete with some tools for the commemorations — lawn signs, blankets, and T-shirts as mementos of their four years at RFH.

An RFH “Be The Light” campaign honoring the class is set for every Friday night in June. Lights in the stadium, where RFH classes until more recent years held graduations, will be turned on at 8:20 p.m. (or 20:20 military time) for 20 minutes. The community is encouraged to join in by turning on their house lights simultaneously to show their support.

The campaign is a way to recognize the pandemic disruption of graduation and end-of-year senior traditions while celebrating the class.

We know this is a difficult time, but we want to be able to help. We are still here working all day every day with no pay, no assistance at all.
