Scene Around: Rumson School’s Out Clap-Out

School’s out in Rumson!

And while tradition dictates that Fair Haven’s eighth grade grads to the infamous walk down Third Street to much fanfare, Rumson students do what they call a “clap-out.” And it just happened very recently.

They’re leaving the hallowed halls of Forrestdale School and moving on to the next block at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School — most of the grads, anyway.

So, as they exit the school for the last time, the students do it to applause … and a bit of fanfare, like some drum beating. Some of the teachers also celebrated their last exit from the school. It’s anyone’s guess what was going on among students at this moment, but there are some amusing clues here.

Take a look at the photo gallery above, courtesy of the Rumson School District, for a glimpse into the milestone moment.

Gulp? They say that oysters come in their own little spoons, ready to serve up their own nuggets of goodness from their deep water beds. But, as far as some Rumson kids are concerned, the looks on their faces while slurping what some call raw culinary delights tells a horror story that needs to be chased with a spoon full of sugar to make that river medicine go down.

Forrestdale’s Fisbowl of Communication

It’s all about opening up lines of communication — getting a good look from the outside in, like a fishbowl.

That was the impetus behind the annual Fishbowl Event that’s been held at Forrestdale School in Rumson now for a decade. And the latest Fishbowl was no exception.

A Ducky Two River Exhibition in Rumson

Saturday was a very ducky day in Rumson.

Live ducks were out wandering around by the river banks at Victory Park. Then there were myriad decoys, photos, drawings, paintings — all things ducky, otherwise bird-inspired, sporty and collectible — at Forrestdale School as the Two River Exhibition of Sporting Collectible Art held its second annual event all day.

Rumson Police Chief Scott Paterson was honorary chairman of the show; and he had a couple of special family members by his side.

Forrestdale Eighth Grader a Spelling Champ

Can you spell winner?

It’s a pretty sure bet that Forrestdale School eighth grader Sage Basri can. The 13-year-old Rumson girl, one of 30 fourth through eighth grade participants, won the school’s spelling bee on Jan. 30, according to a Rumson School District press release.

Basri’s victory came when she correctly spelled the “championship” word anathema, the release said. Sixth grader Michael Benedetto came in second, it added, when he became the only other student who qualified for the final round by correctly spelling the word exonerate.
