Focus: Shopping the Neighborhood in Fair Haven

It was a night of holiday shopping local, socializing, treats and trolley riding. It was Thursday night’s annual Shop the Neighborhood in Fair Haven; and, by all indications and smiling faces, it was a success.

Sponsored by the Fair Haven Business Association and featuring talent from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH), businesses in both districts in the borough opened their doors to meet, greet and treat neighbors and friends in a casual, getting-to- know-you customer appreciation atmosphere from 5 to 9 p.m.

Rumson-Fair Haven Retrospect popped in on a few open houses and caught a glimpse into the evening from the folks at Tavolo, The Pilates Project, Boxwood Gardens, Ferguson Dental, and Coastal Decor and their friends.

Shopping the Neighborhood in Fair Haven

The folks in the Fair Haven Business Association are up to something festive that offers area people some hyperlocal holiday shopping fun.

The new initiative is dubbed Shop the Neighborhood. The entire business district along River Road, from one end by the Acme to the other near Gillespie Avenue, will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.

In addition to all sorts of special deals, giveaways and raffles, there will be entertainment by Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School students stationed at various spots — Umberto’s and Tavolo Pronto on one end and Canyon Pass Provisions and Booskerdoo on the other.

And, for the first time, to add convenience and a little bit of festive old town charm, there will be a free trolley picking up and dropping off shoppers from one end of town to the other.

All aboard! Next stop, Fair Haven business district!

Celebrating Christmas in July at Fair Haven Businesses

Christmas is coming to Fair Haven on Friday. And, no, no one is confused.

July 17 marks the start of a week-long Christmas in July promotion in the borough’s business district, sponsored by the Fair Haven Business Association.

Throughout the week businesses will offer specials and promotions.

Which businesses are participating? You’ll know by the ones with Christmas decorated front doors.

“We have a great variety of stores and businesses in Fair Haven,” event coordinator Pam Boyd, of Boxwood Gardens, said. “If you want the latest fashions, a great book to read on the beach, flowers or fancy food for a dinner party, or lunch delivered to your beach club, you can get that right here in Fair Haven.

“With this event, we wanted to create a little fun and encourage people to visit our stores, restaurants, and services businesses in town.”

Getting Festive with Rumson, Fair Haven Tree Lightings

By Elaine Van Develde

It’s time to haul out the community holiday spirit and get set for the Rumson-Fair Haven area kick-offs to the season of Santa and all the festivities that come to town with him.

First, on Friday evening, at 5:30 p.m., Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick will arrive via fire truck at Fair Haven’s Memorial Park on the corner of Fair Haven and River roads. After the initial greetings, Santa will pose for photos with children, according to a release from the Fair Haven Business Association.

The tree will be lit at 6 p.m. and there will be music, food and activities for the kids, the release added.

Throughout the lighting and Santa’s arrival, from 5 to 7 p.m., the release said, there will be a stroll through the River Road East business district during which businesses will be open and featuring a collaborative open house, a newer tradition in Fair Haven.

The business district will be open on Saturday and Sunday for shopping.

Then, in Rumson on Sunday the borough will hold it’s annual traditional tree lighting and festivities in Victory Park.

The event begins at 5 p.m. and will feature, as usual, the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Tower Singers, Deane-Porter’s third grade chorus and Tim McLoone & the Shirleys with members of Holiday Express.
