Two Motorcyclists Die in Rumson Accident

A man and woman were killed in a motorcycle accident in Rumson on Saturday evening, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced.

John J. Berry Jr., 29, of Atlantic Highlands, and his passenger, Stephanie Hogan 28, of Red Bank, were riding a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle westbound on Hartshorne Road at 7:20 p.m.. As they approached the intersection of Navesink Avenue, where Hartshorne Road becomes Ridge Road, they struck a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. Both riders were ejected from the motorcycle, sustained major injuries.

Berry and Hogan were pronounced dead at the scene at 8:02 p.m.

The driver of the Wrangler and one passenger, both minors, stopped and remained on scene. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, and Rumson Police Department and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART).

On November 13, 2018, the New Jersey Supreme Court decided the case of State of New Jersey v. Eileen Cassidy. The Court found that all blood alcohol content (“BAC”) results reported by Alcotest machines “calibrated” by former New Jersey State Police Sergeant Marc Dennis between 2008 and 2016 are not scientifically reliable and, therefore, are inadmissible as evidence in prosecutions of Driving While Intoxicated (“DWI”).

A Monmouth County cold case has been solved. A former Asbury Park woman has been charged in the 1992 fatal shooting of a 12-year-old girl.

The woman, now 40 and living in Henderson, North Carolina, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter for the killing of Quiana Dees, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni announced on Thursday.
