R-FH Area Weekend: Campout & a Movie

It’s all about the great outdoors when it comes to recreating in the Rumson-Fair Haven area this weekend.

It all starts with a movie on that big screen in Fair Haven Fields on Saturday night and ends with an overnight campout in the fields that has become an annual tradition.

Monsters University is showing at dusk (or around 8:45 p.m.) in the fields. It’s free. Bring a chair and/or blanket to get comfy on and pretend you’re at an old drive-in … without the cars and those crazy speakers.

Just imagine yourselves, parents. Kids won’t have a clue what that is, but it’s nice to pretend and take in some current cinema. Wait. Some parents may actually be too young to remember the old drive-in movies. So, we digress …

And on the same night, in the same place, Fair Haven Fields, it’s time for the annual borough campout.

Everyone gathers at 7 p.m. for games and tent set-up. Yes, it’s bring your own. The games come first, then the movie, then the actual camping will begin.

Here’s the itinerary from the Fair Haven Recreation Department …

• 7 p.m. … Set up tents on the LOWER FIELD. Avoid any spot marked with a white circle. They would be sprinkler heads and you don’t want to be pitching a tent on them.

• 7:15 p.m. … Music starts to play and everybody moves up to the top fields. Stop by the concession stand for snacks and beverages, available for a nominal fee.

• 7:30 p.m. …  Relay and potato sack races, frisbee, cornhole, and more!

• 8 p.m. … Kickball. Both kids and parents are welcome to play!

• 8:45 p.m. … Movie starts. Gather around “the pit” area for a viewing of Monsters University on our giant 16 foot blow up screen!

• Concession stand will remain open until 10:30 p.m..

• 11 p.m. Quiet time. Lights out!!

• 7 a.m. Sunday … Rise and shine!

• 7:30 a.m. … Clean-up and head home for some rest!

Phew!

Reminders …

• BE SURE TO CLEAN UP YOUR TENT AREA. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANY TRASH BEHIND!

• Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian if they are sleeping out.

• No alcohol is allowed in the park.

• Tents should only be set up on the LOWER FIELD ( by the baseball fields).

• Please do not place your tent in areas marked by the white circles.

See you Saturday!
