Rumson Assistant Principal Called to the Office at Knollwood

Someone from the Rumson School District has been called to the principal’s office at Knollwood School in Fair Haven.

Amy Romano, assistant principal for the Rumson School District, will soon be in the office as principal of Knollwood. Romano’s hiring was made official at the Nov. 18 meeting of the Fair Haven Board of Education attended by dozens of students, parents, and staff members. Romano will step into her new assignment in January 2016, after winter recess.

“I will be collaborating with the Rumson and RFH school districts and also providing support and guidance to all teachers and staff,” said Romano. “Promoting college and career readiness and developing a strong character development programs are also at the top of my list of priorities for the district.

“My desire is to foster a love of learning to all staff, teachers, and students by sustaining an innovative vision for 21st century learning.”

Romano has served as assistant principal in the neighboring Rumson School District since 2013. Her fourteen years of experience in education includes ten years as a classroom teacher.

Prior to becoming assistant principal in Rumson, Romano taught various grade levels in the Plainfield and Howell school districts. She served as lead teacher in the Howell schools for two years, coaching teachers on instructional strategies and curriculum. Romano also stepped in as principal of Forrestdale School during the maternity leave of current principal Jennifer Gibbons.

After receiving her undergraduate degree in education at Kean University, Romano earned her master’s degree at St. Peter’s University, where she graduated Kappa Delta Pi.

Extremely proactive in her transition to the Fair Haven school community, Romano is currently collaborating with current Leadership Team members, attending strategic planning workshops tied to future goals for the school system, and meeting with many teachers and support staff members.

Romano plans to focus on student discipline and ongoing parent communications as well the progress being made in Innovation Labs and MakerSpaces.
