‘Movin’ on Up’ from Deane-Porter to Forrestdale

Rumson third graders have taken the traditional Movin’ On Up trek from Deane-Porter to Forrestdale School.

It’s a transitional event filled with symbolism.

Here’s how it went …

After a ceremony held at Deane-Porter School on June 16, the students made the symbolic walk across the brick pathway and through the Forrestdale gymnasium, where they were welcomed to the school where they will finish their primary school education.

Deane-Porter School Principal Shari Feeney addressed the third grade class.

“Even though you are movin’ on up to Forrestdale School, you will always be a part of the Deane-Porter family,” she said. “Please remember that you are awesome, and you will add something wonderful to every room you enter.”

Forrestdale Assistant Principal Amy Romano quoted from famous children’s author Dr. Seuss, telling her prospective fourth graders “You will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”

“One of the most exciting moments in your life will be the walk across the path to Forrestdale,” she said. “Be sure to capture and remember all of the feelings you have in that moment.”

The “Movin’ On Up” ceremony also included a symbolic “Passing of the Keys to the Fourth Grade Wing” from Taylor Crow, Ed Deignan, George Kressler, Murphy McCarty and Katie Tucker to Ava Bruno, Mary Collard, Lilly Fischer, Matteo Gangemi and Kate Hennen.

A slide show featuring a third-grade retrospective was presented, as well as performances of the song New Soul by Yael Naim and the Deane-Porter School Song.

The Perfect Attendance Award was given to third grader Brianne Garvey.
