Scene Around: Marine Research Vessel Dedicated to Memory of Rumson’s Heidi Sculthorpe

Rumsonite Heidi Lynn Sculthorpe was known as a woman who loved the water.

She passed away on April 25, 2008; and her love of all things water-centric, family and friends was something that loved ones noted as everlasting. In fact, her obituary cited that in lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to Monmouth University’s Urban Coast Institute (UCI).

Well, a decade later, plans to erect a UCI research facility in Rumson near the municipal boat ramp are underway and on Monday, a Monmouth University research vessel, formerly, the Nauvoo, was officially named christened the Heidi Lynn Sculthorpe with family aboard and participating.

Sculthorpe’s father, Robert B. Sculthorpe, is a graduate of Monmouth and former chair of the University Board of Trustees.

The moment was captured by longtime Rumsonite Doug Borden, the father of Heidi’s four children. Pictured are Heidi’s twin sister, Heather Arencibia, her daughter Juliette, UCI Marine scientist Jim Nickels, Mr. Sculthorpe and President Grey Dimenna.

Take a look …

RIP, Heidi.
