Prosecutor: Monmouth Man Arrested & Charged in Bank Robberies

A Monmouth County man is facing robbery charges for his role in multiple recent bank robberies, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said on Wednesday.

David Mitchell, 31, of Spring Lake Heights, was arrested and charged  with second-degree robbery in connection with a robbery of the Ocean First Bank in Spring Lake Heights on Monday afternoon. Mitchell was also charged with another second-degree count of robbery in connection with a robbery at the TD Bank in Point Pleasant Borough on Sunday, April 29.

The case background … 

The Spring Lake Heights Police Department responded to a panic alarm from the Ocean First Bank at 2401 State Highway 71, Spring Lake Heights, at 3:55 p.m. on Monday afternoon, April 30. Mitchell was apprehended by Neptune City Police Officer Mark Mazzeo in Belmar a short time later. Officer Mazzeo was returning from a training session and driving through Belmar when he heard the call and responded.

Sgt. Michael Matins, of the Spring Lake Heights Police Department, and Detective Adam Hess of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, handled the investigation.

At the time of his arrest on Monday, Mitchell was wanted for the Point Pleasant Borough bank robbery from the day before, and charged.
