Rumson Police Set Record Straight on Sunday Tragedy

Concerning a tragic Sunday morning incident at a Ridge Road home, Rumson police said on Tuesday that they are trying to “quell rumors, many of which are wildly inaccurate.”

While police said that they understood that well-intentioned social media posts have led to people deducing the identity of the juvenile involved, they reminded people that authorities will not officially release the name of any juvenile under any circumstances.

Police have asked that  for the family’s sake and so they may do their job in investigating, people please refrain from persisting in the spreading of misinformation that is harmful to both.

Rumson police issued the following statement for clarification of the only facts that can be released at this point …

“Early Sunday October 15th, the Rumson Police Department received a 911 call requesting response to a Ridge Road home. In the interest of officer and public safety, officers on scene requested a response from the Monmouth County Emergency Response Team (MOCERT).

“There was no exchange of gunfire between any civilian and police personnel. A male subject was subsequently located deceased in the home by MOCERT members. There is no apparent criminality involved in the incident but a review will be conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Rumson Police Department.”
