The longstanding annual St. George’s-by-the River Canterbury Fair tradition in Rumson has always been, let’s say, something to talk about.

Everyone knows about it. Everyone looks forward to it. Everyone in the area shows up. Well, most everyone, anyway. And many of the events at the fair have been the same for years.

But, one little bit of wandering entertainment, courtesy of artsy RFHers, was something that left the entertainers themselves, say, speechless.

Back in the day, there was a troupe of mime artists. They traveled all over — from far, in venues like Atlantic City, and near, at community events like the Canterbury Fair.

So, the Retro Pic of the Day, provided by Rumsonite and RFH grad Jenifer Weber-Zeller, is a shot of that talked about troupe of silent mimes at the fair back in the 80s.

Pictured are Weber-Zeller and RFH grads Paul Kellogg, Jennifer Woods Hart and Eric Carpenter. Kellogg is the only one out of mime costume.

Yes, the Canterbury Fair is something to talk about. But, these RFHers weren’t talking, they were acting out, so to speak.

So, what do you think they were miming here? Who else was in the RFH mime troupe?
