Well, football season is coming to a close at RFH on Saturday night with a home game against Somerville High School.
But it wasn’t always just about football at game time back in the day — as if that wasn’t enough. Oh, as tradition has it, there were always lots of things happening before, during and after games, whether on the field, off the field, around the bend or, well, in the parking lot. Yes, the parking lot.
Sometimes there’s just more to tackle on the football field than one another and a ball. And sometimes the goal is to fumble and ride with something besides the game — like an old car, RFH friends and a little cruising to play the field in a different way.
Authorities are looking for the killer of a 27-year-old Asbury Park man who was found dead inside a vehicle in the 100 block of Prospect Avenue Wednesday night, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said.

Oh, it’s that time — when people are gobbling up deals on their Thanksgiving meals.
So, the Retro Pic(s) of the Day take us back to one supermarket of the past, another old standard, and turkey dinner deals of the 1960s or 70s? Guess what year these Red Bank Register ads were published.
Remember Finast? Remember where it was? Well, the store’s turkey day sale involved the bird at 49 cents a pound or a beef roast for 98.
And how about this Foodtown ad? The offer there was the same for the Thanksgiving bird — 49 cents per pound. Though the Foodtown roast was $1.09. And how about those nuts at 39 cents? If only the price of nuts wasn’t so nuts nowadays. Bacon, too. When was the last time you saw bacon sold for 69 cents per 1lb package?
A long time ago, that’s when. For the food prices of yesteryear we give thanks — or a little cry.
How much did you pay per pound for your bird this year?
